A good diet is the key to your parrot's longevity. 100% sunflower seed mixes sold in supermarkets are obsolete and dangerous. Here is how to properly feed your parrot.
1. The base of the diet: Pellets
High-quality extruded pellets should make up 70 to 80% of their diet. They prevent the bird from picking out only what it likes and ensure a balanced nutritional intake with every bite.
2. Fresh daily vegetables
Offer fresh vegetables every day, preferably organic: broccoli, carrots, peppers, squash, dark leafy greens (spinach, kale). Vegetables provide vitamins and fiber.
3. Fruits in moderation
Fruits should be considered a treat because they are high in sugar. Prefer apples, berries, papaya, or pomegranate, always without seeds or pits.
4. Seeds and nuts (Training treats)
Use nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts) and seeds (sunflower, millet) only in small quantities as a reward during training.
